Community Conversation: Obama trying to stifle discussion
By MICHAEL WARNER
Recent letters encouraging Americans to "go along" with President Obama's view of America and his solutions to our problems because he wants the best for us, prompts me to respond.
"Obamites" want us all to be quiet, as they believe compliance and blind obedience leads to a United States of America. I disagree.
I believe freedom leads to a United States of America, beginning with freedom of the press, a fundamental component of a free society and nation. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution is the cornerstone of our freedom, although our president believes only those that agree with him should be heard, as do some recent letter writers.
Freedom of the press equates to individual freedom to gain knowledge, share opinion and understand others. Deduction and thought are not a silly blame game — they are our right and obligation as citizens to protect our nation — its Constitution and its future.
We have a lot to be concerned about, and most concerns lay at the foot of our president. Obamanomics has not worked as promised; the jobless rate continues to increase, unless you work for the government.
The evidence is apparent in Wisconsin, where almost all of the jobs created are in the public sector — paid for with taxpayer dollars.
Productive jobs in the private sector are the key to economic recovery, not government employment.
The private sector is turned loose to produce and contribute to economic activity through tax policy in tough economic times, not through higher taxes and expanded government control — that is fundamental economics. Fundamental, of course, unless you do not believe in freedom, but believe that government is the answer.
It is not a silly blame game to be concerned that the commander in chief has spent over a month on a policy for Afghanistan — a policy that should have been in place last January. Yet the president had plenty of time to campaign across the country raising millions of dollars for the Democratic Party while our soldiers in Afghanistan wait for help. August saw 51 American deaths in Afghanistan, and while the president campaigns over 55 more have died. I believe the president is delaying a decision for political purposes.
These lapses in leadership are not surprising since he has golfed over 25 rounds (males only) in less than one year. I believe the president should be concentrating on the nation, not his political party, and not his leisure while we endure the worst economic and military crisis in history.
The latest tally in Obamaism is a $700 billion tax increase on Americans, $500 billion in Medicare cuts from the elderly, 500,000 jobs lost, and the ultimate destruction of the best health care system in the world. The system may have flaws in need of attention, but the socialist answer will not work, we need a bipartisan effort, not a closed-door secret plan.
As a nation we are on the brink of eliminating freedom of discussion, expression and opinion, which will lead to the eventual elimination of the core that built our country.
Socialism, cradle to grave, that is the Democrats' plan.
Make no mistake, our very Constitution is under attack and not from without, but from within. We must not just resist. We must revolt, not tomorrow, but today. The time has come for ordinary American patriots to stand up for the Constitution of the United States of America and defend our freedom, the very foundation of our nation. Call your senators, congressperson, and state representatives and let them hear your voice.
Please save the United States of America — and freedom — for the future of our children and American values.
